Honoring the Past Through Buhurtub
The undisputed veteran of the three clubs clashing in this tournament, 1316, hails from the medieval town of Athenry. Founded by four kindred spirits from diverse backgrounds, they were united by a shared passion and commitment to promoting the sport in Western Ireland. Their name, 1316, commemorates the Second Battle of Athenry, a brutal conflict fought on August 10th, 1316, remembered as one of the bloodiest battles in our nation's history, with devastating losses on all sides. Primarily a Buhurt club (specializing in large-scale battles rather than duels), they honor these fallen warriors every time they take the field.
Their motto, "Ceann agus Croi," translates from Gaelic to "Head and Heart," perfectly encapsulating their core values.
