They fight in black, red and white!
1316, the oldest of the four clubs competing in this tournament, hails from the medieval town of Athenry. Founded by four like-minded individuals from diverse backgrounds but united by a common passion for advancing the sport in the West of Ireland, this team takes its name from the Second Battle of Athenry, fought on August 10th, 1316 – one of the bloodiest conflicts in Irish history, marked by immense losses on both sides.
Primarily a Buhurt club, focused on the fierce intensity of group battles rather than duels, 1316 honours the fallen warriors of that historic clash each time they enter the List. Their motto, "Ceann agus Croí" – meaning "Head and Heart" – captures the spirit that drives them. They fight in striking black, red, and white, a testament to their strength, unity, and respect for the past.
